JET Levy
The JET Levy has been created from the historic link between JET and a number of schools who have traditionally added monies to their bills to help JET provide funding for school places for children in need. The current debate about how schools can demonstrate charitable status has demonstrated that this scheme is a possible solution to the problem, and discussions with the Charity Commissioners and other interested parties have prompted us to roll the scheme out as a suggestion to all schools.
The Levy works as follows:
- Schools add a small additional line to the termly bill (currently recommended at £10 per full fee-paying family per term)
- This is always an option for the parent, and can be struck off the bill
- Monies are forwarded to JET on a termly basis
- These monies are used to top up available bursaries by providing grants towards the fees
- All monies collected will be used for the above purpose and applied against our usual application criteria
Advantages
- This scheme clearly demonstrates Charitable Status
- The scheme will provide a central fund which will allow for the provision of larger donations to top-up available bursaries
- Because of this a smaller Bursarial Fund will be necessary at each school and can therefore be targeted at children and young people whose cases would not be considered by the Trusts
- The central fund will allow for the provision of a significantly larger number of cases
- A small additional line to the bills will negate the need for a large increase to termly fees to boost the Bursarial Fund
- This scheme is cost-neutral to the school
Further details are available from Head Office, and we will be pleased to visit schools to discuss this if required. |
